Show Notes

I am sure you have had days where you have felt like you were very productive.  And, I am sure you have had days where you felt like you didn’t want to get out of bed.  Days where you were sluggish at best.

There are a few key ways that help me get the maximum potential out of every day.  I would be lying if I said I have arrived in doing this every - single - day.  But, for the most part, when I am able to implement what I am about to share with you, I know that I will have a productive day, getting the most out of the day.

A quote that I refer often to is “Everything rises and falls on leadership” by John Maxwell.

This includes the way that you lead yourself.  If I want to have influence on others, I need to be able to lead myself well.  Which means I need to have disciplines in my life.  Motivation is not the real problem.  It is discipline.  When we are able to form healthy, daily disciplines that become habits, we can really get the most potential out of the opportunity of the day.

This is actually a leadership concept that I overheard being shared at a conference.  I couldn’t tell you the overall context, nor to the best of my knowledge has this been published.  What I can tell you is that the idea and concept behind this has stuck with me.

I am going to give you 5 ways to maximize your day.  To get the most potential out of what you are doing.  Here’s how you can look at this.  Have you ever had a wet towel and found yourself wringing all of the water out of it to dry it?  Grabbing both ends and twisting, squeezing the water until it is as close to dry as you can get it.

Think of that visual.  Now, in the same way I want to share with you how to “W.R.I.N.G.” the potential out of the day.

So, here we go.  5 things to do everyday to get the maximum potential:

W - write.  Everyday I write.  Whether it’s my task list, my calendar, creative ideas, etc..  I also make sure to write down as much as I can everyday when it comes to leadership blogs, articles, upcoming talks, or meetings.  Here is a great resource that I use religiously every day: https://fullfocusplanner.com/

R - read.  Everyday I read.  Here is why reading is so important:

  • It helps me grow.
  • It helps me communicate better.
  • It helps me be creative.
  • It helps me focus and concentrate.

I - inspiration.  Everyday I am inspired.  Sometimes it is hard to get inspiration.  But I think that is the beauty of doing this everyday.  It is a search, even a journey at times.  To find inspiration all around us.  To see the incredible beauty of every moment before they are gone.

N - network.  Everyday I network.  I realized a long time ago that if I am going to be better at whatever it is I am doing, I need to network.

G - grow.  Everyday I grow.  In some form or another I grow everyday.  It has become a passion of mine to get better.  To be better today than I was yesterday.

I hope that you have found this helpful!  Before your head hits the pillow tonight, ask yourself, “Did I wring out all of the potential from today?"
